Khanbogd Khairkhan Mountain
Khanbogd
Khanbogd Khairkhan is relatively higher than the surrounding mountains, with an elevation of 1350.3 meters above sea level. It is composed of granite and is the prominent peak and sacred mountain of the region. According to local elders, in ancient times, this mountain was known as "Böön Khar" or "Bükhel Khar," and the Galba people, who raised camels and sheep, lived in this area. A legend about the mountain tells of a female guardian who rides a "green silk robe-wearing camel, holding a limbe (traditional Mongolian flute), wearing a pouch made from the camel's harness, with a ram's head peeking out of the pouch." In 1970 and 1980, Russian researchers discovered rare new minerals named "Mongolite" and "Armstrongite" from the saline granite of Khanbogd Khairkhan.
