Khavirgiin Zoo
Khanbogd
Known locally as Khavirgiin Buuts or Khavirgiin Zoo, this area became recognized as a paleontological site on May 1, 2016, when paleontologist B. Mainbayar and colleagues from the Institute of Paleontology discovered exceptionally well-preserved dinosaur tracks. During field research, they identified four massive tracks belonging to a giant sauropod, seven consecutive theropod tracks, and a potential series of ornithopod tracks. Subsequently, in January 2020, the site was officially designated as a provincially protected paleontological heritage area. Khavirgiin Zoo is considered a site of great significance for dinosaur paleobiological research.
